London Windsurfing association
a Raceboard and techno SERIES BASED AROUND LONDON
The London Windsurfing Association LWA is the London & Thames Valley Region of the UKWA. They have run events for Raceboarding and Techno sailing events for over the last 45yrs. Every year the LWA runs a Summer Series of 7 one-day events and at the end of the year the Icebreaker Team Series which is composed of three one-day events.
They are keen to promote the sport of windsurfing and include the Techno class. Techno sailors can compete alongside the raceboard sailors and have the usual Techno category's to compete in.
Every year, the LWA Committee chooses one young sailor who has participated in LWA events and shown talent, determination and sportsmanship to be awarded in recognition of their windsurfing achievements. They are presented with a trophy and a cheque for £200 with the intention of encouraging them to further success.
Please see the LWA Facebook page for more details.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the LWA please get in touch. The Techno class is super keen to make windsurfing available across the country so if you would like your local windsurfing association included, please let us know! Our Techno coaches are all qualified Techno sailors and have a wealth of knowledge and experience in making the training sessions informative, fun and rewarding.
All the T293 training events are listed here and are marked as training in either the title or description. Or join one of our clubs listed as a Regional Windsurfing League club to take part in regular club training and racing.
Helping young people learn to windsurf
The board is a great platform for learning windsurfing, being stable, easy to handle in many different conditions, and versatile. It offers great scope for advanced windsurfing too, and can be fine-tuned to achieve even greater levels of control and speed in competition. This makes it a great board for learning technical aspects of windsurfing setups, and gives young people the freedom of the waves, and responsibility and control over their sailing. FAQs
Do I need to have a techno board and sail?
No! It doesn't matter what kit you have or what sail size you use. Most sailors will borrow club kit for these events and we have courses from 3.5m sails (or below) up to 7.8m sails. If you haven't got your own kit or you can't borrow your club kit, get in contact with the host club to discuss options.
I have never raced or entered a competition before – does it matter?
No!! Don't worry if you have never done this before there will be plenty of people around who will talk you through it or help. Our main aim is for everyone to have fun so our events are really relaxed.
What if it is too windy for my sailor?
We manage the events according to the weather and our experienced coaches will alter the course or do some skills sessions. It doesn't matter if they can't finish the course, it's all about having a go and having fun.
