Regional windsurfing events
Run by the Techno class UK, these events are ideal for all levels and ages of junior and youth windsurfer. It's for your first try at sailing somewhere new, meeting others who enjoy windsurfing and a first experiences of racing.
Within each region we run training clinics and also a mini series of race days known as the Regional Windsurfing League (RWL), There are five regions currently in the London & South East, South and South West, Midlands, North West, and North East. Please get in touch if you're not sure which region would be local to you. Each RWL event is organised by the participating club and supported by the Techno class volunteers. Please see the events page for the details of each event and links to the local club.
It's all about getting on the water and giving it a go, so don't worry if you haven't got a Techno board or sail or have never raced before. So long as the board has a centreboard and you are comfortable with your sail size to sail across the wind. It's a great way to progress if you have tried windsurfing before.
The day will be designed around the participants to make it accessible and fun, so for those not ready for more formal racing the day will include games and coaching aiming to build skills and confidence to sail from the beach, around a buoy in the water and back. Prizes are awarded at the end of the day based on activity results and merit.
For the more experienced, a race course will set up and a series of mini races held. The racing is safe and fun with coach support available should you require it.
Techno racing is split into categories for girls and boys and also across different maximum sail sizes: 3.5m, 5m, 5.8m, 6.8m, 7.8m and 8.5m. Each persons final result will be calculated based on the category they entered for the event. Which means that if you wish to change down sail size during the day you can, however the final result will be based on your category entered. Prizes are awarded for top sailors in each category.
For sailing clubs attending with a group of windsurfers, the top six participants from your club will have their final results across all categories count towards your club score. At the end of the series there is a RWL series trophy for the club with the best results within your region, that you can take back to your local club to proudly display.
Please contact us if you're interested in hosting a RWL event or your local club isn't yet included in the local Techno region and they are keen to promote junior and youth windsurfing. We can help with support and advice along with volunteers who can help guide you through what is involved.
